It is extremely satisfying to see a design novice with nothing more than a head full of ideas, combined with drive, determination and a willingness to learn, develop a fully-fledged fashion label. And Fashion Enter Stitching student Karen Gold has done just that…

It was only last year that Karen Gold began her fashion journey, embarking on the Level 1 Stitching Academy course run by Fashion Enter in North London. The six-week course teaches the fundamentals of sewing with industrial machines and provides an essential foundation for garment construction. Karen completed the course with a passion to do more, and there was no stopping her. She progressed on to Level 2 whilst making her first range of womenswear, and her proactive approach has ensured she has showcased her work and gained stockists and clients along the way.

Karen comments, “I have been undertaking my Stitching Academy classes with Fashion Enter in their factory in North London, and I have learnt so much about design and what works for beautiful women of today. I have now progressed to my Level 2, and I love making my own garments for my many clients. It means I can really understand the female form. I would urge any budding designer to understand how the construction of a garment works – it’s almost impossible to design properly otherwise. Thank you to the fabulous team at Fashion Enter for their support – it’s been a real learning journey, and I have loved it.”

Karen recently made her London Fashion Week off-schedule debut under the collective showcase ‘Fashion International’. Entitled ‘Still Oceans’, her SS16 collection plays on duality and the free flow of water by combining effortless, fluid styles with minimal sharp tailoring.
